Tesco Plc is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer. It is a FTSE100 company with a market capitalisation of approximately £13bn (19 August 2016). Tesco is Europe's second largest retailer and the UK's leading food retailer with approximately 28% market share. Tesco also has operating subsidiaries in seven markets outside the UK, representing approximately 20% of sales in FY16. The group has a direct presence in Asia: Thailand and Malaysia and Europe: the Republic of Ireland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. Tesco has presence in China and India through joint ventures with local partners.
